St Luke's Church Wedding Photography - Hartlepool

St Luke's Church is the daughter Church of St Paul's, Hartlepool.  The foundation stone was laid on St Peter's Day (29th June), 1914 and the building was consecrated on St Luke's Day, 1916.  It was not quite the Church you see internally now; there were chairs instead of pews and the Lady Chapel was at the north-east corner.

St Luke's became a separate Parish in 1926. In 1948 the War Memorial tablets (1939-45) were dedicated. In the same year the colourful reredos figures were painted by an Ampleforth monk who was a refugee from Poland.

The oak pews were installed in 1965. Many of the smaller oak items of furniture have been made by Thompsons of Kilburn and a feline detective ought to sniff out fifteen mice or more!

In 2008 St Luke’s entered the digital age with an updated sound system and it became the first church in Durham Diocese to have plasma screens installed.
