Headlam Hall is a delightful family owned and run 17th century country mansion which stands in beautiful gardens. Surrounded by its own rolling farmland it offers luxurious accommodation and is the perfect location for your fairy-tale wedding. Boasting a rich history, Headlam Estate came into the possession of the Birbeck family of Cumberland in the 16th century and was inherited by the Birbeck’s second son Henry, who then built the mansion in the 17th century with his new wife Anne. The elaborate oak fireplace in the main hall displaying the Birbeck coat of arms was in fact commissioned by Henry as a gift to his sweetheart Anne, and still stands proudly today, adding a romance to the construction of this beautiful family home. The Hall was purchased by the current owners, the Robinson Family, in 1977 and lovingly restored by them to it’s original glory with an abundance of new improvements which allowed them to build Headlam Hall up to it’s current status as a premier country house hotel and wedding venue in the North East.
This charming Jacobean mansion is in a premier location near key towns of Newton Aycliffe, Darlington and Barnard castle and near the North Yorkshire border while still being a hidden gem in amongst beautiful countryside. To add awe and interest to your view and your wedding photographs, the estate includes a walled garden set over four acres boasting an impressive main lawn bordered with colourful flowers not to mention the wonderfully unique features of an ornamental canal and quaint rose garden married with the natural beauty of ancient yew and beach hedges. The garden also produces fruits and vegetables to ensure your wedding breakfast uses only the freshest and most local ingredients.
The stunning interior of Headlam Hall includes the option of two suites in which to host your event. The Edwardian suite is designed to be reminiscent of an English country garden with a high curved ceiling which allows your event to be bathed in natural light, combined with soft décor and details such as subtle foliage murals. The room is suitable for up to 120 guests for a wedding breakfast and can comfortably hold 140 for an evening celebration. In addition, The Gallery, located upstairs, can provide additional seating if required. Furthermore this suite gives you the option to use the Stable Lounge and Coach House Bar, which provide an ideal location for reception drinks and somewhere for children and other guests to retreat to a quieter setting during the evening celebrations. For a more intimate affair the Drawing Room can seat up to 46 guests along one large table for a wedding breakfast with spectacular views of the garden through the row of Georgian windows overlooking the terrace. Both of these stunning suites are licensed for civil ceremonies to allow your day to pass seamlessly from wedding to celebration in a beautiful setting. Headlam Hall is a perfect country getaway for your special occasion and as a prestigious and experienced wedding venue you can ensure that this romantic mansion will not disappoint.
